We at the Revolution Games family would like to wish all of our customers a safe and joyous New Year 2009!

Despite the nasty R word (recession), this year just showed how strong gaming continues to thrive both here in Calgary and abroad. We were happy to see a lot of the classic games as well as the newer titles being huge success’ straight through the holidays.

Looking forward to a new and exciting year - happy holidays everyone!

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend of Boxing Day savings - both online and in-store this weekend! Definitely kept us hoping, and we hope everyone enjoys their new games and such this week!

Quick heads-up for everyone as well - New Years Eve we’ll be open from 9am til 6pm and we’ll be closed on New Years Day. Regular hours again though on Saturday from 9am til 10pm!

Happy holidays everyone!

Jess, Sandy, Nathan & Crew
@ Revolution Games

Yep… that time of year… survey what’s been sold, what’s left … and reorders! :-) BUT before we get into the paperwork, lets have a bit of fun for the weekend… !!

Going to do something neat this year as well, and extend the sale to ALL online board game orders being placed today thru Sunday at 6PM

IF we have your game in stock and handy, we’ll get this sent out to you this coming week… IF we’re sold out at the time of your order, we’ll get this in for you asap and still have the discount apply!

Hey All,

Had a crazy day mixing things up at the shop today with our very own Nathan ~ cracked open our copy of Power Grid and had a 2 player match while both eating cookies and helping out folks with Christmas sales - talk about multi-tasking!

Alas, Nathan one this one but I’ll bust out more Oil plants in the next round!

A lot of you have probably had a chance to play Power Grid, but just in case fairly easy game to get into - designed for 2-5 players (not bad with 2, but could foresee having more players mixes up the gameplay). Essentially you buy the rights to place power factories in various cities (basic game gives you a double-sided board - one side the US, the other Germany), purchase your raw materials to fire up your reactors to power your cities then grow and expand as much as you can afford to. Think this round worked out to about an hour, and its a fairly easy game to get into for anyone wanting something a bit more challenging than say Settlers of Catan or Carcassonne.

Definitely worthwhile taking a peak at - fairly low on stock for the holidays but its definitely worthy of giving a neighbors copy a try or checking out in the new year when fresh stock arrives! Expandable with several different board maps and there’s new stand-alone version, Factory Manager of the same flavor of gameplay.

Hey All,

Been a bit since our last blog, but we’ve been hopping around like crazy at the shop so have a plethora of boardgame and other news!

First off, as everyone probably guessed, Christmas is in full swing! Been seeing lots of folks gobbling up the usual holiday favorites like the Ticket to Ride series, Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Power Grid and Killer Bunnies but we’ve also seen upswings on several newer-ish lines like Dominion, Small World, Pandemic and the reprinting of Bang!

So as its December 19th we’re still holding our own on stock loads with an additional 3 waves of stock arriving Monday thru Wednesday next week. Unfortunately, we have run out of the following but have *some rough etas of timeframes these will be back in stock after the holidays:

Pandemic (unknown eta)
Dominion Basics (eta last week of January)
Zombies!!! Basics (eta mid January)
Bang (eta first week of January)
Bohanza (end of December, first week of January)
Apples to Apples Party Boxes (reprinting towards March)

New Arrivals Just In Time For The Holidays!

Axis & Allies Pacific Anniversary Edition

Axis & Allies celebrates 25 years of strategy war gaming with a deluxe edition of its original theater-level game. Axis & Allies Pacific 1940, designed and developed by Larry Harris, utilizes the updated rules established in A&A Anniversary Edition. Features an oversized board that measures 35 inches wide by 32 inches high and has over 450 pieces, deluxe game components and local storage boxes, and updated rules!

Pairs in Pears

Simple simple simple game - great for families, friends and also children learning letters and words. 2-4 players, grab your tiles and put together words - first one to a certain level of pairs of words of at least 3 letters wins!

Cardcassonne

Card version of the popular Carcassonne game series, In Car(d)cassonne, players place their cards in different rows to make them more interesting. Whether in the field, the city, the road or at the abbey, you must ensure that cards placed will earn you more points than your opponents.

However, sooner or later, every player has to choose one of these series of cards. But which of the series will pay more? If you wait one more turn, there will probably be a greater number of cards in the row. By cons, it is possible that another player take the opportunity! You should be alert in this game stretched to wrenching choices. Rebuild Carcassonne: one card at a time!

Just a quick note for everyone, we had a chance to find some Magic 2010 boosters so we officially have the new M10 Singles Binder happening for these and we also have a healthy restock happening with the Zendikar Singles Binder as well!

BIG heads up as well for everyone - we’re planning on opening the doors to trades on Magic and WoW CCG Singles the Magic binders shortly.  If anyone has any suggestions on how we can meet (or excel) everyone’s expectations, just drop us a line.

Good news everyone!

Don’t ask how we managed to do it (wrestle Wizards of the Coast, hired Ninjas to hunt down our suppliers at their homes or road trip out to Ontario to sleep on the warehouse docks :-)) but we’ve been able to get in a VERY VERY VERY limited amount of Magic 2010 boosters. (sorry nothing for Intro Decks quite as of yet).

Based on the nature of the demand and the very likelihood that these won’t resurface until September-ish if we’re lucky, we have these in at $5.99/booster - LIMIT of 5 Booster Packs per Customer (Per Day).

NOT something I prefer to do in terms of limiting sales, but as most folks know we’d be cleaned out within minutes of this blog post if we did so otherwise.

At present we don’t have enough stock to properly do up a Singles Binder at the shop (sorry folks) and we won’t be posting these online for sale - just in-store sales at the moment BUT happy to at least report SOMETHING has surfaced!!!!

Just a note for anyone scratching their heads, wondering what all we’re up to online lately (and may have spotted a few changes to the site).

Inbetween paperwork, orders, paying bills (and occassionally cracking open a game on the tables here at the shop), we’ve been looking at the site wondering what we can do to make it easier on everyone to make the site more user-friendly.

One thing that I’m always up to is updating Stock Status’ (and occassionally missing something that recently sold at the shop).  One thing we’ll be introducing here over the next little while will be a more visible status so you can view what’s what either on the product listing or on the product information pages themselves.

This title is one of our usually stocked items, may sell out but usually in stock pretty quickly or in depth.
This title recently just arrived at our shop! Brand-spankin’ new game right before the weekend!
Ooops… we did a bad thing and sold out of this game :-) If we can catch these or anticipate being out of stock for more than the current week, we’ll do our best to update the status of a sold out item to this status.
Hmmm… something new, something neat… and something upcoming! Sometimes we even offer preorder special discounts or just just want to feature & hype something new.
This title is usually available but needs to be ordered in. Depending on our friendly and happy suppliers this might take our usual Monday order to get a hold of OR longer depending if they need to restock. When in doubt, ask and we’ll be happy to get in touch and let you know either way.

So what else…?

Had folks come at us asking for more information for Facebook (as well as Twitter for Revolution) so we’ll be bringing those up to snuff and connecting to the site soon enough.

With the new Special Order tab above, you’ll start seeing a lot more stuff being solicited for order on the site past what we usually keep actively in stock! Nathan’s been after me in particular for Warmachine miniatures so stay tuned for those and a bunch of other product lines (AND SPECIAL PRICING on some of these to boot).

If anyone has any suggestions on how we can churn up more fun and such online, feel free to drop me an email directly at orders@revolution-games.com and I’d love to hear ‘em!

Oops, hit the 9pm mark - time to close down and see the wife and child. Have a great night everyone!
Jess

Seen quite a lot of interest in these the past while, so thought I’d do up a quick blog about them for anyone that hasn’t doven into the world of Carcassonne yet (OR are so addicted they needed to get a gift for their next door neighbours!)

Carcassonne is one of those games designed for pretty much everyone - easy to get into, diverse so you can play 2-5 players if you like, changes every time (tile-based) and can get tricky if you’re thinking ahead a couple of moves. Add in an expansion or two and then… well things can get a lot tricker for everyone!

Carcassonne usually runs around the $35.00 mark for the base set, expansions tend to run around the $21.00 mark (all the way down to $6.99 for one of the mini-expansions) so its not only fun, but affordable at the same time to expand the gameplay.

This year marked the second anniversary for Rio Grande to release what they dub the Carcassonne Big Box - a collection of the basic Carcassonne as well as their pics of expansions for the year. (Princess & The Dragon, Inns & Cathedrals, Abbey & Mayor, Traders & Builders and the mini expansions (River II, Count, King & Cult).

So what’s really really kewl about the Big Box other than all the stuff? She runs at $89.99 (saving about $60 give or take if you bought the various expansions and such on their own).

Rumour mill also has it we’re one of the better places in town for pricing (hearing rumors of others charging upwards to $150+ for these) which for the life of me I can’t fathom but we’re happy to get Stampeded on Fridays so yeah for us! :-)

Wanting a copy? Best to get your order in before Mondays when we place our restock order as these tend to (literally) disappear as they are in transit (and haven’t even arrived yet!) Don’t call or email before Monday hits? No worries, just call over and we’ll see how booked up things are for copies.

Cheers!  Jess

As many probably noticed on the homepage, we have another wave of restocks and new titles landing at Revolution here at some point on Friday (and she’s chaulked full of really good stuff so I thought I’d do a quick recap here for anyone missing out on what’s inbound).

Axis & Allies 1942

Bang! Basics
Settlers Of Catan - restocks p’plenty
